Crucial Questions on This Form

What is covered under the Roofing Warranty Certificate?

The Roofing Warranty Certificate provides homeowners with two main benefits. First, it offers lifetime craftsmanship coverage, meaning that if the roof installed by MCS Roofing experiences leaks due to substandard installation, the company will address the issue at no cost for the life of the roof, which is defined as a 50-year period from the warranty issue date. Second, the warranty is transferable, allowing the new homeowner to benefit from it, provided that the transfer is requested in writing and signed by the original owner.

What are the terms of the warranty?

Several important terms apply to the warranty:

  1. The warranty takes effect only after the roof installation is completed and all associated costs are fully paid.
  2. It does not cover damage caused by defective materials or issues arising from the construction of the dwelling, such as warped sheathing boards or improper roof deck installation.
  3. Homeowners must promptly notify MCS Roofing of any problems. If the issue is due to workmanship, MCS Roofing will fix it at no charge. However, if the repairs are unrelated to their workmanship, homeowners will incur reasonable charges.
  4. The roof must be cleaned every two years by MCS Roofing to maintain the warranty. Cleaning fees will be additional and must be paid on the day of service.

Are there any exclusions from the warranty coverage?

Yes, there are specific exclusions to the warranty coverage. These include:

  • Damage caused by natural disasters such as floods, fires, or earthquakes.
  • Structural movement or failure of the underlying roof deck or building.
  • Any alterations or tampering with the roof, including installations or penetrations for cables or equipment.

Additionally, MCS Roofing will not be liable for any damages arising from the roof installation beyond what is specified in the warranty.

What should a homeowner do if a problem occurs with the roof?

If a homeowner notices any issues with the roof, it is crucial to contact MCS Roofing as soon as possible. Prompt notification allows the company to determine if the problem is related to their workmanship. If it is, they will address the issue at no cost. However, if the problem is not due to their work, the homeowner will be responsible for any repair costs incurred.

How does the transfer of the warranty work?

The warranty is fully transferable to a new homeowner. To initiate the transfer, the new owner must request it in writing. This request must be signed by the original owner, ensuring that both parties agree to the transfer. This feature allows the new homeowner to benefit from the same protections against leaks due to substandard installation.

What happens if the warranty conditions are not met?

If the conditions outlined in the warranty are not followed, the warranty may become null and void. This includes failing to report issues promptly, not maintaining the required roof cleaning schedule, or not paying for any necessary repairs. Homeowners should ensure they understand and comply with all terms to keep their warranty valid.

Documents used along the form

When obtaining a Roofing Warranty Certificate, several other forms and documents may be necessary to ensure comprehensive coverage and clarity regarding the roofing project. These documents help to establish the terms of the warranty, outline responsibilities, and protect the interests of both the homeowner and the roofing contractor. Below is a list of commonly used documents that accompany the Roofing Warranty Certificate.

  • Contract Agreement: This document outlines the terms and conditions agreed upon by both the homeowner and the roofing contractor. It includes details about the scope of work, payment schedules, and timelines for project completion.
  • Invoice: An invoice provides a detailed account of all charges related to the roofing project. It serves as proof of payment and is essential for activating the warranty.
  • Proof of Insurance: This document verifies that the roofing contractor has the necessary insurance coverage. It protects the homeowner from potential liabilities arising from accidents or damages during the roofing process.
  • Material Specifications: This form lists all materials used in the roofing project. It ensures that the materials meet industry standards and are covered under the warranty.
  • Inspection Report: An inspection report documents the condition of the roof before and after installation. It can be crucial for any future warranty claims, as it provides evidence of the roof's state at the time of installation.
  • Maintenance Agreement: This agreement outlines the recommended maintenance schedule for the roof. It emphasizes the importance of regular upkeep to maintain warranty coverage.
  • Ohio Traffic Crash Report Form: Understanding the significance of using the appropriate documentation is paramount, such as the Ohio Traffic Crash Report form, designated as OH-1. It captures essential details crucial for legal and safety reasons. For more information, you can refer to All Ohio Forms.
  • Transfer of Warranty Form: If the homeowner decides to sell the property, this form allows for the warranty to be transferred to the new owner. It ensures that the new homeowner can benefit from the warranty coverage.

Homeowners should keep these documents organized and accessible for future reference.

Misconceptions

  • Misconception 1: The warranty covers all types of damage.
  • This is not true. The warranty specifically excludes damages caused by natural disasters, structural movement, or alterations made to the roof. Understanding these exclusions is crucial for homeowners.

  • Misconception 2: The warranty is automatically valid after installation.
  • Actually, the warranty only takes effect once the roof installation is complete and all payments are made in full. Homeowners must ensure these conditions are met for the warranty to be valid.

  • Misconception 3: The warranty is transferable without restrictions.
  • This is misleading. While the warranty is transferable, the transferee must request the transfer in writing, and it must be signed by the original homeowner. This process ensures that the warranty remains valid for new owners.

  • Misconception 4: MCS Roofing is responsible for all repairs during the warranty period.
  • This is incorrect. MCS Roofing will only cover repairs related to workmanship. If the issue arises from other factors, the homeowner will be responsible for repair costs.

  • Misconception 5: Roof cleaning is optional for warranty coverage.
  • This is a common misunderstanding. Regular cleaning is required every two years to keep the warranty active. If cleaning is not performed by MCS Roofing, the warranty will be void.
